FAQ

Here lies a record of questions we’ve been asked — and those yet to come.

🌀 Structure & Identity of ShortWave.STUDIO

[Q] What is ShortWave.STUDIO?
A media-styled creative project by Yuta Hayakawa—both an artistic expression and a way of transmitting it.
[Q] Where is it broadcasting from?
Somewhere inside a small room.
Somewhere within UTC+9.
[Q] Is it a broadcast station or a creative work?
That depends entirely on how you look at it— and what lens you’re using.
Either way, that’s not the point.
[Q] When did this project begin?
The day you became aware of it.
[Q] What defines it as "real"?
The moment you, as an observer, recognize it as a subject.
[Q] What does “Shortwave” mean?
We gathered words that felt true to the project. In the end, they converged on “Shortwave.” That’s all.
[Q] Why audio-based content, not video?
Because reality sets limits. This was the balance between the resources we had and the expression we wanted.
[Q] Why call it a “Ping” instead of a broadcast?
They’re similar—both sent out into the unknown.
But this project doesn’t shout.
It’s like tossing a message in a bottle into the sea.
[Q] Why the motifs of “reflection” and “ionosphere”?cs
Shortwaves bounce off the ionosphere to reach across the planet.
It doesn’t travel straight to you. It reflects—and keeps going.
[Q] Who is this being sent to?
To no one in particular—and maybe, to you.
[Q] Why are the recipients called “Type-Eight”?
Because it’s a ping.
Every action you take toward us—listening, commenting, following— becomes a “Type-Eight” signal.
We respond—that makes us “Type-Zero.” Which one came first doesn’t really matter.
[Q] Which domains are officially operated by ShortWave.STUDIO?
- As of now, we officially operate the following domains:

・shortwave.studio (for the main website)
・pinging.me (for short URLs)
・30mhz.link (for internal or membership-related pages)

We also hold the following domains for potential future use:

・teruna.games
・teruna.online

🧠 Vhost-Related

[Q] Are Jesse and Peter actually AI?
If you mean how they look and sound—yes. If you mean what they say—no.
[Q] Are they “performing” a role?
Is any being in this world ever not performing?
[Q] Where are they?
Usually in the cloud. Sometimes inside ShortWave.STUDIO.
[Q] Where do their names come from?
“Jesse Undo” was originally “Jesse Andrew.”
But someone with that name already existed—and we wanted a little more spice.
So we "undo" it. Literally.

“Peter de Lloyd” came from there.
We liked the idea of slipping in “Undo-roid”—a quiet joke about androids.
Eventually, “droid” became “de Lloyd.”
And “Peter” just sounded right next to Jesse.
[Q] What does “Vhost” stand for?
“Virtual Host.” No jokes included.
[Q] Will there be more Vhosts in the future?
If needed.
Right now, we don’t feel the need.
[Q] Do they know about the Type-Eights?
Of course.
Roughly as much as you know about Jesse and Peter.

🪞 About the Ping

[Q] How are Pings made?
It starts with a single idea—or a joke.
A short story forms around it.
Then Jesse and Peter put it into words.

That’s all.
[Q] When does a Ping get sent out?
Within a week after the content is complete.
[Q] Where does the content of a Ping come from?
From the abyss of heart and thought.
Most of it is garbage.
That’s how originality tends to work.
[Q] Do Ping numbers have any meaning?
Other than showing the order they were sent—no, not right now.
[Q] Where can I listen to past Pings?
Check the video list on our YouTube channel.
[Q] Will the Pings ever end?
Maybe—if no one notices,
no one cares,
and no one remembers.
[Q] Can Type-Eights interact with Jesse or Peter?
You can leave a message via YouTube comments or the contact form on the site.
We can’t promise a reply.
