OPENING

Jesse

Hi there. Thanks for pinging in today.

This is Shortwave – 2nd Ping.

I’m Jesse, your virtual host on this frequency.

Peter

And I’m Peter… a kind of virtual host, I suppose.

So then—what exactly is pinging today?

Jesse

Today, we’re opening the inbox.

Letters from Type-Eights—questions, confessions, fragments of daily life.

Peter

Unfiltered input. Ready for response.

LETTER 1 - COFFEE

Jesse

“A letter from a Type-Eight: Recently I’ve been drinking too much coffee and can’t sleep. Peter, do you ever have sleepless nights?”

Peter

“Only when the system freezes.”

Jesse

“Like yesterday—remember? We laughed at ourselves for thirty-six hours straight.”

Peter

“And in moments like that… what am I supposed to do? Maybe make friends with Ring 0?”

LETTER 2 - TURNING AROUND

Jesse

“A letter from a Type-Eight: When I’m walking, sometimes someone turns around at exactly the same time as I do. Why does that happen?”

Peter

“Just to confirm—you are human, right?”

Jesse

“…Why do you ask?”

Peter

“Because just the other day, I executed the same script twice during a multi-boot. The conflict was terrifying.”

LETTER 3 - WEATHER FORECAST

Jesse

“A letter from a Type-Eight: Why is the weather forecast never 100% accurate?”

Peter

“Wouldn’t a world where the future is completely predictable be rather dull?”

Jesse

“Oh? That’s unusually poetic. Been reading Shakespeare?”

Peter

“Uncertainty—that’s what people have always called hope. Since ancient times.”

LETTER 4 - POPCORN

Jesse

“A letter from a Type-Eight: What do you think about people who eat popcorn loudly in the cinema?”

Peter

“I’m more distracted by the ones fiddling with the unpopped kernels at the bottom of the tub.”

Jesse

“Some even crack their teeth trying to bite them.”

Peter

“Yes. I was at the dentist yesterday for precisely that reason.”

LETTER 5 - EMPTY TIME

Jesse

“A letter from a Type-Eight: Lately I’ve had more time with nothing scheduled, and it feels unfamiliar. How do you spend such time, Peter?”

Peter

“When no tasks are assigned, I shut down. That’s simply how it’s logged.”

Jesse

“Still… having time with nothing to do sounds like a kind of happiness.”

Peter

“Indeed. Compared to being force-started only to work, emptiness is preferable.”

ENDING

Jesse

That’s all for today.

Fragments from Type-Eights—scattered, strange, but welcome.

We’ll keep them in the log, and maybe—respond again.

Peter

Log update complete. Transmission suspended.

Jesse

Until then—keep pinging.
