You Know What “Worldbuilding” Is, Right?
ShortWave.STUDIO has always been rather particular about its “worldbuilding”.
We put quite a bit of thought into everything from the terminology and overall atmosphere to the colours and fonts we use.
Well, I doubt most people even notice.
…Or rather, they probably just see it as something that doesn’t really matter….
Anyway, even the word “B-CON” is something we’re fairly particular about.
The Answer: It’s a Blog If You Call It a Blog. It Isn’t If You Don’t.
First of all, if someone asked you, “What’s a blog?”, how would you answer?
Personally, I’d probably say something like, “A medium for continuously accumulating content centred around written text.”
In that sense, yes, it’s a blog. We’re accumulating primarily text-based content here.
But that’s a rather literal—or perhaps superficial—way of looking at it. It’s only one part of the picture.
If you look at where it sits within the ShortWave.STUDIO project, B-CON is definitely not the main content.
It’s more like supplementary content.
It’s not entirely backstage, but it occupies a similar sort of space to making-of material.
You could say it’s the glue that fills the gaps between the main content.
And Yet, There’s Quite a Mixture of Stuff in Here…
That said, B-CON contains all sorts of content.
Announcements about ShortWave.STUDIO, for example.
Sometimes you’ll find original short stories or poetry, and sometimes there’ll be something more opinion-based.
But that doesn’t mean we’re simply throwing everything in here without any kind of order.
Underneath it all, everything shares that thing we call the “worldbuilding”.
So whichever article you happen to read, I think you’ll probably still get a sense of what makes it feel like ShortWave.STUDIO.
