Immersed in Sound

EN NeutriNoise

There are plenty of arts and cultural events in the town where I live.

Many are free to attend,
and even the paid events are very affordable.

They’re often held at places like local community centres,
which makes them easy to get along to.

My child took an interest in a few of them, so we went along.
At one event, my child said this through tears:

“Why do they have to stop playing now? I wanted to hear more.”

That took me by surprise.

At this event, a local group of amateur musicians played arrangements of songs from the 1970s and 1980s,
with instruments including trumpet, trombone, saxophone, piano and flute.

Several vocalists took turns from song to song, each with a beautiful voice.
The whole ensemble seems to have struck a chord with my child.

We also went to a jazz concert at a large local hall.
This was another amateur group, a jazz big band.

They had invited a professional violinist who lives locally,
and we enjoyed three hours of jazz, mostly standards.

My child was starting to nod off partway through, but said it had been fun.

Music was already a favourite, but it’s lovely to have so many chances to be showered in sound as part of everyday life.
